as a "reformed" skater who recently traded my 10 wheels in for 2, i made it to Rockmart for the first time today. some thoughts:
1. the western half of the trail is beautiful! on skates, i had only been past pumpkinvine trestle a handful of times, and never further than the tunnel. all the undeveloped land out there is incredible, especially with the dogwoods in full bloom.
2. the folks on the western half of the trail are friendlier. oh, they still walk across the whole trail, stop and park in the middle of the trail, and the kids on training wheels still turn left at a moment's notice, but everyone is *much* nicer as you go through. and without exception, they did make an effort to move.
3. as i watched a small girl just plop down in the middle of the trail to fix her shoe, i was reminded of Robert Heinlein who said something like, "little girls, like butterflies, need no excuse".
4. the store at coot's lake is a godsend. tired of goo, i stopped and found they carried the ideal bike refreshment: oatmeal cream pies and skittles. the oatmeal creme pie dancing happily in my belly flattened out the little climb back up to the tunnel, and the skittles, well, complex healthy carbs are good, but nothing beats tasty sugar.
5. lactic acid is my friend.
6. if you weren't out riding, skating, walking, or whatever today, shame on you! it just doesn't get much better than this...
jeeum
