Yesterday, I encountered an electric motor scooter (mopad type, yellow in color), on the CLT about .2 miles south of the Jacksonville Community Center headed toward Weaver. The driver was a young female, talking on a cell phone in one hand while having a dog attached on a leash to her right handlebar. I was almost run over. Also, last month I saw a golf cart on the trial. There are signs posted saying no motor vehicles. Can anything be done? Who do I call? Thanks.

I think you're supposed to call 911 and report the infraction. Tell them you're on the Silver Comet Trail and give them the nearest mile marker number or intersecting street name.

After doing some research I found that local jurisdictions must pass local laws pertaining to CLT rules. Currently the posted rules are simply a guide to users but the real rules must be passed and enforcement is by the local authorities. I have been unable to find any laws passed by Anniston, Weaver, and Piedmont concerning CLT rules. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department has jurisdiction over all other sections of the CLT in Calhoun County. No laws have been passed to backup the CLT rules in Calhoun County and the CLT is considered an off road venue and is treated as such by Calhoun County. This allows motorized off road vehicles, equine, firearms, as well as hunting on the CLT. Currently, there are no law enforcement patrols on any section of the CLT. The current situation is unacceptable and I would suggest you write the CLT board of directors about this situation.

This sounds as if you have done your homework, and thats great. Now, you should start attending all those counties commission meetings with other cyclist from JSU and any other place where you might get support.
Get placed on the counties agenda for the meetings and go get 'em tiger. Don't stop now NC Bob
