My son and I stopped at the gas station befoe we got to the Esom Hill Church sign, and got some water. We then pulled in and hit the trail. Not much mud, the trail was great - we just went through a few puddles.
Grass has grown over the trails, but had been cut. Still, it seemed harder to make progress. Could have just been my extended stay at lazyville catching up on me.
We made it to the bridge and checked it out. All new ties! There was corrugated sheet metal layed over the ties, and wire mesh over that - looks like the crews are getting ready to pour!
My son and I crossed the bridge and wandered down towards the creek. Had a good break, then slowly headed back. I know I haven't wanted that section paved, but after struggling through the dirt and grass - I can't wait!
Heading back, we made it to the mud section. We decided to walk it. I went to the right and stayed high and dry. My son went to the left and sank in the mud. Both sneakers came off. We had discussed his socks and shoes on the trip - a hole in one sock (he started getting a blister and switched the foot his holey sock was one), and sneakers that were getting tight (at ten, they grow mighty fast!). So, we left the shoes and socks neatly arranged at the side of the puddle.
We figure, the trail will be paved soon. There will be no more mud. It was our last chance to feed the mud gods. I hope they liked the shoes and socks.
