This May the Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga trail will be the location for the very first long distance skateboard race (think Tour de Georgia on longboards) and we (the race organizers) would greatly appreciate any help any of the cyclists who frequent the trail on a regular basis could provide during the event. Mainly all we need is for riders to provide just some point of contact for long distance skateboarders in case they have a problem or need directions to water.
The event will have checkpoint feed stations set up at roughly 20 mile intervals (depending on access points) and will provide food, water, and electrolytes, for each of the riders however, for the safety of the skateboarders just knowing that there are cyclists on the trail who can assist them with information or make emergency calls if necessary would be a incredibly helpful.
We will be issuing arm bands to all of the cyclists participating and giving them an emergency phone lists they can have with them in case the rider needs a sag wagon to come pick them up. (We anticipate there will be some abandonment on Day 3).
The schedule is set for now as the following:
Day 1 May 20th 10 am Start Mavell Road Mile Marker 0 to Rockmart (37.66 miles) (Racers and crew will be camping and staying in Rockmart)
Day 2 May 21st 9 am Start Rockmart to Anniston's Woodland Park (Racers and crew will be camping and staying in the Anniston Area)
Day 3 May 22nd Anniston's Woodland Park to Mavell Road Mile Marker 0 (yes the whole enchilada)
We have already about 20 competitors committed and think the number will grow to about 30.
30% of all sponsorship money and entry fees will be going to charity: water to provide clean water wells to villages in impoverished countries. We all have been thirsty at one time in our life but take for granted that water and every other type of beverage is available in abundance here. This is way to give back.
Please contact me at : [email protected] if you would like to volunteer or if you know of bike clubs that would want to host a group ride and of those days to support the riders. We also will be looking for a few riders to be the "pace car" for the leaders of the event so if you are interested in riding the trail at about 13 miles an hour and staying in front of some crazy dudes and dudettes on longboards please let me know that is well.
You will all receive a tee shirt and other hospitality items as well.
