Relaxed tour on CLT/SCT planned. Your advice?

A small group is planned a relaxed tour, cycling from Smyrna on the SCT to the end of the CLT, and back. Would appreciate your thoughts about the following itinerary:
Day 1: Cycle from Smyrna to Rockmart or Cedartown, staying at Econo Lodge in Rockmart or Holiday Inn Express in Cedartown.
Day 2: Cycle from Rockmart or Cedartown to Piedmont, staying at Key West Inn or possibily Terrapin Lodge.
Day 3: Cycle from Piedmont to end of CLT and back to Piedmont, same accomodations as...

SCT Bypass Suggestions

I'm planning a ride from Atlanta to Anniston and hate the section of the SCT between Rockmart and Cedartown. I know at one time there was a fairly simple, fairly flat bypass leaving out of Rockmart. I am thinking about riding out on Morgan Valley Rd. then taking Antioch Rd. into Cedartown. Is this a good route? I would entertain suggestions. Thanks.

Well, it has been a long time since I used my tandem. In a fit of garage cleaning, I told my oldest son he could post it on Craigslist. Silver Comet / Chief Ladiga 1 Day UNICYCLE Attempt

I'm planning to ride my 36" unicycle the length of the entire path sometime this late fall / early winter (when I'll have time off). I'd really like to get a full 100 miles in as well; I know that the entire path is a bit short of a full century so I was wondering what would be the best way to pick up a few extra "safe" miles. I know there are a few side connectors so perhaps I can work those in as a short out-and-back. For background I'm an ultra-distance...

How big a deal is it if you actually get caught on the trail after dark or before sun up? And yes, if there are any officials on here I know what the rules are but I am going to attempt to skate the entire trail in September in 1 day and that will require me to start on the Weaver end at 5 am skating the first 2 hours with a light.

I will probably will need a total of 15 hours to complete the trip and considering that there is less than 12 hours of daylight in late September it...

My wife and I had a chance to ride the length of the Chief Ladiga Trail. The trail is beautiful...especially the stretch from Piedmont to the AL state line. The Eubanks Welcome Center in Piedmont had a friendly staff and nice cool air conditioning. We saw plenty of rabbits and a horse right next to the trail. Many friendly users of the trail were out as well. We will be making a contribution to the foundation based on our positive experience and the obvious care to maintain it.

My wife and I had a chance to ride the Silver Comet Trail last week. We did it in three stages...one stage per day.

Stage 1 - Round trip GA state line to Don Williams trail head and back (aprox 34 mi round trip).
The hills defined this stage...

Stage 2 - Round trip Rambo Road trail head to Don Williams and back (aprox 44 mi round trip).

Hi...planning to ride the chief ladiga trail and silver comet trail this October. I am planning to take Amtrak to Anniston. Then I'll ride my bike for the about 7 miles from the Amtrak station in Anniston to the trail head near Weaver AL. How are the roads? Traffic? Safe neighborhoods? Thanks?

This forum used to be really active years ago, when the trail just started out. A bunch of groupies started taking over the forum and turned it into a very hostile place for alot of people. I notice that these people have all since disappeared, but so have all the other people that just wanted to have civilized discussions about using the Silver Comet. Very sad, that what could have been great for many people was ruined by a few.

On the silvercometga.com website, the Don Williams Trailhead, at Mile Marker 44.8, says:

Heading west, the trail travels a few miles to the Grady Rd Trailhead. You can use this parking lot, if the Don Williams Trailhead is full. The trail temporarily stops at Grady Rd due to Hwy-27/Hwy-278 bypass construction.

Please let me know if you can give any updates about the trail temporarily stopping at Grady Road due to highway construction.

Beware of glass

Just a heads-up: on a century ride on July 18, our group encountered significant broken glass on the trail about 4-5 miles west of Rockmart and on the eastern side of Cedartown. We had 5 flats on 3 bikes, all within a mile or two of these locations. Fortunately we all had spare tubes and/or patch kits, so we were able to finish our out-and-back from Rockmart to Jacksonville.

I noticed on a map that steep hills are noted between Cedartown GA (MM 51.4) and Fish Creek GA (MM 45..
Please let me know if these can be described a little more.
Are the climbs 1/2 mile or 2 miles?
How many climbs?
Approximate grade %?

I am (potentially) planning to have someone drop me off at mile 0 and ride to mile 22 (Rambo Trailhead) where I will be picked up by a relative, stay there a day or two and then ride from mile 22 back to 0.

Hello Everyone.
My brother lives in Atlanta and has suggested I fly down from NYC and ride the Silver Comet Trail with him one weekend this fall. We plan to do the trail in one day, and have been throwing around ideas on how to handle the transportation on the way back.
(We'll trying to not involve his wife since she'll have the very small children to deal with)
So, option one is to drive to the town in Alabama where the trail ends and leave one of his cars the night...
